Defend Public Health Launches New Website

DefendPublicHealth.org Is Now Live

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As the destructive effects of Trump administration attacks on public health and medical research continue to grow, Defend Public Health has launched its first website at defendpublichealth.org. The site includes information about the all-volunteer network and its current campaigns aimed at fighting administration attacks on proven, science-based health policies and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s continuing public health malpractice.

“We’ve been amazed at the outpouring of donated, volunteer labor and expertise that put this site together,” said DPH Communications co-chair Elizabeth Jacobs. “This is going to be a long, difficult fight to protect our nation’s health, and I hope this new site will help more people to get involved.”

Jeff Calderone, CEO of Elevated Third, which built the site at no cost to DPH, said, “Few issues are more important than bringing clarity to complex public health issues. At Elevated Third, we are proud to donate our Drupal expertise to build Defend Public Health’s new website -- giving thousands of scientists, clinicians and advocates a place to help us protect evidence-based public health policy.”

The new website is now live at DefendPublicHealth.org.

Trump administration exports anti-abortion and anti-trans policies through expanded ‘global gag rule’
The Trump Administration has dramatically expanded the global gag rule, which limits countries receiving US aid from delivering abortion care, to also include prohibitions on gender-affirming care, support provided to transgender and nonbinary people, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. The Administration has also expanded the scope of the policy by applying it to countries receiving humanitarian aid including food aid and disaster relief. Experts including Alicia Ely Yamin, co-chair of the Sexual and Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice Committee at Defend Public Health, weigh in on how this policy negatively impacts local control in health systems abroad and furthers public health crises already exacerbated by the Administration's cuts to US aid over the past year.
