Improving the Health of Americans Together: An evidence-based framework for addressing the root causes of illness in the U.S

Rather than critique HHS Secretary Kennedy's "MAHA Report,"  which was based on false, flawed and fundamentally incorrect interpretations of science, medicine, disease outcomes and public health, Defend Public Health believes it is important to outline some key policies that would truly improve Americans’ health. This report represents our first attempt, and is certainly not exhaustive, but outlines a series of evidence-based approaches we believe would make a real difference. Unlike Kennedy, we pay close attention to social determinants of health -- the economic and social factors, often related to poverty and discrimination -- that too often get in the way of Americans staying healthy.

The report was prepared, reviewed and approved by the members of the Coordinating Committee of Defend Public Health, including Elizabeth Jacobs, PhD; James Alwine, PhD; Miranda Yaver, PhD; Kelly Blanchard, MS; Julie Scofield, BS; Bruce Mirken, BA, and Jonathan Shaffer, PhD.
