It’s Not Over Till It’s Over! Help Stop Medicaid Cuts
Republicans in Congress are currently steamrolling towards not only cutting but gutting Medicaid -- one of the few ways for low income and disabled Americans to have access to health insurance -- by reducing federal support to states and by mandating so-called 'work requirements' for people to receive their benefits. These cuts are intended so Trump can give his billionaire cronies a massive tax break.
The Senate's proposed plans to slash Medicaid will lead to an estimated 7.8 million Americans losing their health insurance by booting more than 10.3 million Americans from their Medicaid benefits – while millions more would lose the coverage they have through the Affordable Care Act marketplace. These cuts and loss of health insurance for a total of 16 million people could lead to upwards of 12,000 medically avoidable deaths per year in the United States. And despite the Trump Administration’s touting of added protections for tipped workers, 2 million tipped workers risk of losing their coverage due to cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.
Even more outrageously, these cuts will NOT save American taxpayers money. The independent U.S. Government Accountability Office has estimated that mandated Medicaid work requirements add enormous additional administrative costs to state budgets, ranging from $6.1 million in New Hampshire to a whopping $272 million in Kentucky.
We need you to demand that Republican Senators and all members of the House reject these Medicaid cuts in the big bad Trump tax cuts for the rich budget reconciliation bill.
These Medicaid cuts will kill vulnerable Americans and will cost all of us more money. Stand up against these cuts and write your elected officials below!
